Inspiring the Next Generation of Creatives
Our Day at Standish High School’s Mock Interviews
Recently, we had the pleasure of taking part in Standish Community High School’s Mock Interview Day hosted at The Edge in Wigan.
The event brought together professionals from across a range of industries, helping students gain confidence, understand expectations, and experience the structure of a real interview setting for a design role.
As a graphic design studio that believes strongly in nurturing emerging creative talent, we were delighted to meet the Year 11 students and support them as they begin thinking about their next steps beyond school.
Going Back to Where it Started
Our designer Fiona represented Scene and spent the day speaking with students who showed a real interest in the creative sector, whether that was graphic design, web design, illustration or broader roles within the design industry.
Their enthusiasm and positive attitude were really encouraging, considering their main focus at the moment is their GCSE exams.
As a former Standish student herself, Fiona returning in a professional capacity was a rewarding experience and emphasised that early guidance can truly shape a creative journey.
Preparing for the Future in the Creative Industry
Throughout the day, Fiona spoke to students about their thoughts on making a creative career and offered the students practical advice on preparing for college courses, building an early portfolio, exploring design software, and understanding what it’s really like to work in a modern creative studio.
We hope that the conversations not only helped them feel more confident about interviews but also gave them a clearer picture of what a future in the creative industry could look like. Fiona also spoke about the importance of being able to talk about their work confidently in a professional or educational setting, in preparation for future interviews for a job or university course.
Creativity thrives on fresh perspectives, new ideas, and the boldness to experiment, and it’s clear that the next generation has plenty of that to offer. We’d like to thank Standish Community High School for inviting us, and we wish every student the very best as they move forward into their next chapter.
