Personalised Wedding Invitations FAQ
What information goes on a wedding invitation?
Your names
Pretty obvious, but this is your moment, make them the star of the invite!
The date and time
Include the full wedding date and ceremony time so guests know exactly when to arrive.
Venue details
Add the venue name and address, especially if guests may be travelling.
Reception details
If your reception is somewhere different, it’s helpful to include that too (either on the invitation or an extra details card).
RSVP information
Let guests know how to reply and by when. This could be an RSVP card, email address or wedding website.
Anything extra guests should know
Things like dress code, transport info, accommodation recommendations or whether your wedding is adults-only can all be included if needed.
Wedding invitation wording examples
Some couples prefer formal wording, while others want something simple and relaxed.

When should you send wedding invitations?
Timing your invitations can feel confusing, but there’s a pretty simple rule of thumb.
For most UK weddings, invitations are usually sent around 4–6 months before the big day.
If you’re sending save the dates, these are normally sent 8–12 months in advance, especially for summer weddings or if lots of guests are travelling.
A quick timeline:
8–12 months before → Save the dates
4–6 months before → Send invitations
6–8 weeks before → RSVP deadline
How many wedding invitations do I need?
This catches loads of couples out, including my sister! You usually don’t need one invitation per guest. Most invitations are sent per household or couple, so the number is often much lower than expected.
We’d always recommend ordering a few extras too, just in case.
